Day 8- Standin' on the Corner of Winslow, Arizona
First stop of the day was Meteor Crater, AZ. This is the first proved and one of the best preserved impact sights of meteors in the world. I don't know if you can really tell from the picture, but the crater is huge. We are sitting on the edge of the top lookout point. I thought this was pretty interesting because I teach 4th grade science and my kids actually have to learn about this during our Earth and Space Science unit.
Around lunch time we were standin' on the corner of Winslow, AZ, such a fine sight to see. This was a tribute to the Eagles lead singer.
Later in the afternoon we drove through the Petrified Forest and Painted Desert National Park. It's called the Painted Desert because the colors of the minerals in the rock make it look like it has been painted with a paintbrush. Again, my students have to learn about different types of rocks, so this was interesting to me too. I can't wait to show them the pictures I took when we get to this unit.
