Keeping a Global Perspective

I teach 3rd and 4th grade GA's on Wednesday nights at my church. Each month we learn about missionaries in different parts of our country or the world. In September, we learned about the Purples, a missionary family that lives in Alaska who ministers to college students at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. In October, we learned about Noah and Angelika Davis, who live in Central Asia and who minister to a people group called the Samoa(names of missionaries and people group were changed in our books to protect their true identities). This month, we are studying a team of missionaries that live and work in the Appalachian region of the United States. It has reminded me of a tv show that I used to watch when I was younger, Christy. Do you remember that show? Based off the book Christy by Catherine Marshall? Anyway, many of the people in the remote regions of the Appalachain mountains are still poverty-stricken, and these missionaries help provide them with basic needs such as shampoo, socks, and school supplies. Sometimes we get so stuck in our daily routine that we forget that people still fight for survival, in other countries and our own country. It has been really eye-opening for me, and a great reminder to pray for them, even if it's only once a week on Wednesday nights. One fun thing that we did tonight was make trail mix! Each girl made a ziplock bag of goldfish, cheerios, pretzels, M&Ms, chocolate chips, raisins, and even dried apples. It was quite tasty, if I do say so myself. I packed an extra bag to put in my lunch box to take to school tomorrow.
I'd also like to take this moment to give a shout-out to Mucinex. This stuff works!
