{Baby Davis} Week 19 ~ It's a Girl!

Disclaimer: Picture- heavy post

That's right! Our sweet baby is a GIRL! We felt both surprised and ecstatic when we saw on the ultrasound. We were both expecting for Baby to be a boy for the longest time, right up to a couple of days before our appointment. A few days before we went we both felt that Baby might end up being a girl after all....and we were right!

We'd like to proudly and fondly introduce you to Maylin Sidney Davis. She has captured our hearts already. We were finally able to take home printed out pictures of her, and man, could we see her very well this week! There was no question at all whether Maylin was a boy or a girl. Here's her precious profile, complete with ears, cheeks, and a nose. You can also see her waving both her hands and feet while laying comfy and cozy on her back. This picture makes my arms itch to hold her!

We couldn't have dreamed of a better ultrasound technician. I know this lady does ultrasounds on pregnant ladies all day every day, but she did everything imaginable to make our time special, especially when she found out this is our first baby. She explained where everything was on Maylin, and even "oohed and ahhed" at all the appropriate times. We got to see Maylin's brain, spine, beating heart, stomach, arms & legs. We watched her yawn, kick, and beat with her arms on the "ceiling" of my uterus. She is unbelievably precious. We also found out that Maylin has finally hit a growth spurt! She is now measuring right at 19 weeks, right where she should be (she has been measuring small until now). Nancy, the technician, informed us that Maylin weighs 9 ounces, a little over two sticks of butter.

First thing we did when we got home? Held 2 sticks of butter in our hands :)

Date:: April 2, 2013

How far along:: 19 weeks // 4 months 3 week

Gender:: Girl

Movement:: I finally felt Maylin make those little dance moves this week! I have felt her three times. Right now I have to sit or lie very still to be able to feel her because it is such a light feeling (though it won't be that way forever!).  I've heard it described as feeling like a flutter or like you have gas, but it doesn't really feel that way to me. It feels like it did when I used to play with bubbles when I was a kid. It's what I used to feel when I caught a bubble on the palm of my hand and it popped. Except it's on the inside of my stomach. Just a light little "pop."

Symptoms::
~ My clothes are getting smaller.
~ My belly feels very firm when I touch it.
~ Lower back pain is better. I've been sleeping with a body pillow in between my knees and lying on my side, which has helped tremendously.

Craving::
~ Nothing.

Looking Forward To::
~ Getting the nursery finished. We actually bought our paint this week and made another trip in which we donated much of the "junk" that's accumulated in the guest room over the past couple years.

Fun Baby Fact::
~ Baby is (supposedly) as long as a mango and weighs 9 ounces.

Weekly Development::
~ Neurons are connecting the brain to the bones and muscles this week.

Emotions::
~ Happy!
~ Smitten by Maylin. We can't wait to meet her!

Best Moment of the Week::
~ Seeing Maylin on the ultrasound and discovering that she is a girl!
~ Sharing the news with close friends and family at a small gender reveal.
~ We also spent some time at Toy's R Us getting a feel for what exactly we want to register for in a few weeks. We came away with a large box of diapers, a large box of wipes, and Maylin's first clothes! It's about time for this baby to have something to wear!

A few pictures from the gender reveal:

 We had our friends and family open a card all at the same time to find out Maylin's gender. We also announced her name at this time.

Everyone voted on what they thought Maylin would be, boy or girl. Girl won the vote!

Michael read a passage from Deuteronomy (written on last week's post) as a testament of our promise to each other as husband and wife, to Maylin, and to our future children. We wanted our friends and family to be a witness to our commitment to God to raise our children in His Word to the best of our ability. This was probably the sweetest time of the entire night for me.

This week starts the halfway mark of my pregnancy. April will be here soon!
