Meet My New Friend!

Gotta give props to this guy...
I had heard a lot about this product, but had never bothered to buy to try for myself. On my birthday a couple of weeks ago my Mammaw gave me a goodie bag filled with cleaning supplies and tips (was this a hint???) which has turned out to be such a gem. Our house is usually tidy because we both hate clutter, but as for cleaning I just get by with the basics: sweeping, wiping down the bathroom, an occasional dust here and there. My most dreaded chore is the bathroom. I mean, who doesn't hate to clean the bathroom? I decided to dig into the bag of supplies and consult the sheet of tips and came away with this guy- the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser. WOW did he work, and with less than half the effort than it usually takes me to scrub the scum off the bathtub with a rag, water, and Lysol bathroom cleaner. Simply wet the Mr. Clean scrubber, wipe, and rinse. It works like a DREAM. Seriously, you wouldn't believe.

Thought I'd go ahead and leave you with a list of the other products and tips that were included in my bag. The starred items are the ones I've tried so far. Don't judge. It's only been a couple of weeks.

  • The best way to dust blinds: close them, then wipe up and down with an old dryer sheet. It'll create an antistatic barrier that helps prevent dust from building up again.
  • *The Mr. Clean Magic Eraser Is Your Friend. It will cut your cleaning time in half for bathtubs, sinks, countertops, and dirty walls.
  • *To clean glass and mirrors, use coffee filters, not paper towels. They leave no streaks or link and they're cheap. (Works great!)
  • Vinegar and water is a great deodorizer for a musty bathroom. Spray shower when you get out. The vinegar will absorb odors and the vinegar smell goes away in about an hour.
  • A wet pumice stone will clean a dirty oven faster than any spray-on product.
  • Toss bathroom mats in the washer every week or so rather than vacuuming them.
  • Mop wood floors with plain water or a water based floor cleaner like Bona.
  • Seventh Generation dish liquid diluted with water is a great nontoxic all-purpose cleaner. Mix two squirts with water in a spray bottle.
  • Secret Weapon- Bar Keeper's Friend- a powdered product that cleans glass top stoves, counters, toilets, porcelain, etc. Main ingredient is rhubarb powder, which cuts grease and grime.
  • To clean microwave, microwave a cup of water with baking soda until boiling. It will eliminate odors and make it super easy to wipe away all the stuck on stuff.
  • Clean cobwebs with a yardstick covered with a tube sock- works for under refrigerators and stoves.
  • Shine bathroom tiles with lemon oil. It helps prevent mold and mildew and smells good.
  • *To eliminate that ring in your toilet, drop a denture tablet in the bowl, leave for 30 minutes or overnight, swish with the brush, then flush!
Happy Housecleaning!
