I love wisteria! This is by far my favorite flower. The few weeks that it blooms in the spring, I just want to drive around and look at all the places that it is growing. The funny thing about wisteria is that you never really notice it the rest of the year. It's just a plain old vine growing in the trees or a regular old bush sitting in someone's front yard. But during those few early spring weeks it is glorious. My grandmother loves flowers and gardening. Her yard is gorgeous this time of year. One time, about six or seven years ago, she took my sister and I to Lowe's and let each of us pick out a flower that we wanted to plant. I don't remember what Christy picked out(probably a daisy or something practical like that) but I wanted wisteria. We looked all over for that plant! We finally found it. When we got back home, Grandmother helped me and sis plant our flowers. Of course, it's a vine, so we fashioned a little stake and stuck it in the ground so that my fledgling wisteria could have a place to grow. It wasn't the season for wisteria to be blooming, so I waited patiently all year for the tiny vine to display it's purple blossoms. Spring came, my hopes rose...and my wisteria didn't bloom. I was so disappointed! Grandmother said it was just because it was a young plant, but of course the wisteria that she decided to buy and plant in her own yard at the same time was thriving. Typical. Apparently, I didn't inherit the green thumb gene. My mother is as cursed as I am at keeping plants alive. In fact, the fern hanging from her front porch is fake(she would be so embarrassed if she knew that I am broadcasting that fact, but it's true! and it has a certain comedic value) My wisteria has bloomed maybe twice in all the years that I've had it. Grandmother's has practically taken over her backyard. Since I'm off at college, I haven't seen my wisteria vine this spring, but Mom called me the other day and told me it had one bloom. Yay! One bloom! I can't believe I'm this excited over one grape-like cluster of purple! It made me homesick to see Grandmother's yard. Not just the wisteria, but all of her flowers. And not just her yard, but Grandmother and Granddaddy too. Until then, I'll just enjoy the blossoms entwined through the trees on the side of the road on my way to and from school and thank God for all the memories they bring of Grandmother.

I LOVE wisteria too! Probably because purple is my favorite color :o) Grandmother brought some flowers from her yard when they came for a visit, and I am so excited to see them bloom too! Lily Kate helped me plant them, and not 30 minutes after we had come inside she asked me if we could go see if they had flowers yet, lol. Don't know how my green thumbs gonna turn out, I'll have to keep you posted! I guess we won't really know till next spring!
